America on Bidding Farewell To Betty After 4 years

America Ferrera on Ugly Betty's End

New York Women In Film & Television 29th Annual Muse Awards

Despite America Ferrera’s thriving movie career both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, the actress is the first to admit it will be bittersweet to hang up Betty Suarez’s poncho when her series Ugly Betty ends its four-season run this year.

“No – I'm a stone cold robot monster and I have no feelings. Of course it's bittersweet!” Ferrera told TV Guide Magazine while promoting her new film "Our Family Wedding," opening March 12 (she also executive produced and starred in "The Dry Land," which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival).

“It's been a part of my life for four years, essentially my whole adult life,” the actress explained. “I love the cast and I love this character and I love the show. It's hard to say goodbye to something that's been a part of you life for four years. And at the same time it will always just be something that changed my life, changed my career and will be incredible memories forever.

Ferrera promises that Ugly Betty’s final episode will wrap up all the show’s storyline in a way its faithful viewers will appreciate.
“We're not going to do a Sopranos' type ending,” she said. “I'm happy with the way that we're going to wrap it up. I think Betty fans will be, too. I mean, not everybody will be satisfied. Everyone that I meet – the guy at the security checkpoint at the airport has an opinion about who Betty should be with and what her life should end up as which is wonderful. It's amazing to meet fans who really care that much and have stuck with it and have passionate feelings about it, but I'm happy with the way that it's going to end.”
While Betty began life as a U.S. adaptation of the Columbian telenovela Yo soy Betty, le fea and there have been over a dozen international versions, Ferrera says: “it's really fun that our version, the American version, has kind of become owned by other places. We're so loved in Australia, we're so loved in the UK. French and Spanish and Italian people stop me all the time. I was in Morocco and people recognized me as Betty. That's a really amazing part of it and knowing that this character and her positivity and her light and her enthusiasm and the love for an underdog is just global. It's universal. That's a really rewarding part of it.”

She does admit there is one thing about the show that she’s ready to leave behind. Asked if she’ll miss taking on Betty’s distinctive, style-challenged look, Ferrera flashed her real-life radiant smile: “Absolutely not!”

Becki Newton Aka Amanda First To Land Post- Betty Acting Job

Ugly Betty's Becki Newton Headed To NBC

Gap Celebrates The Opening of The New Gap Concept Store in Soho

Ugly Betty’s cancellation certainly doesn’t mean a trip to the unemployment line for Becki Newton. The actress, who’s played Amanda on ABC’s Betty since the series began, has accepted a new role on an NBC comedy.

It should come as no surprise to any Ugly Betty fan that Newton received numerous offers for roles following the cancellation of the ABC series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Newton received a grand total of eleven offers and she’s decided to accept the role for NBC’s dramedy Love Bites.. Newton is set to play the role of Annie in the series. The character is described as “an optimistic, infectiously bubbly social worker who is a virgin.”

It sounds like she's almost a complete opposite to Newton’s role as Amanda on Betty. Sure, Amanda’s often upbeat but her energy is usually fueled by ego boosts and seeing Betty suffer. She’s also far from virginal. That said, I don’t have any doubts about Newton’s ability to handle this new role. She’s proven to have a knack for great comedic timing. It’ll be great to see what she does with the part.

Kathy Najimy To Guest Star On Ugly Betty

'Ugly Betty' Braces Itself for Kathy Najimy

'This Is It' Los Angeles Premiere
More One of the most pivotal moments in Betty's (America Ferrera) life is coming, and it's not just the series' finale. According to Entertainment Weekly, this ABC comedy will be getting a guest star who will play an essential role in the story.

Now, if you've read the title of the article, you'd have guessed it right away. If you didn't, we'll tell you anyway. Stage and screen actress Kathy Najimy has bagged the role of orthodontist on Ugly Betty, and she'll be the one yanking out the braces of our metal-mouthed heroine.

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has revealed that sources confirmed Najimy's appearance on the show. She'll be the one to remove Betty's braces, replacing Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson as our protagonist's orthodontist. He was first seen on the show's first season, returning last month for a short stint.

But it looks like Najimy's role won't be as much trouble for Betty. Conversely, she'll even be a sort of "guardian angel" to her. This orthodontist, who may or may not have crazy magical alternate universe powers, will show our heroine what her life will be like sans braces.

Insiders have divulged that the episode may just follow the format of It's a Wonderful Life. That could mean we should expect quite a tear-jerker, or a major heartwarming experience.

The Ugly Betty episode featuring Kathy Najimy will be airing on March 24, which is a week before the series' scheduled conclusion. Well, it looks like we have to wait a bit longer to see this theatre veteran on the small screen. But it certainly feels as though the writers are gearing up for the show's big finale.

Kathy Najimy recently appeared on another ABC drama-comedy, so she won't be new to the network once she flies in for Ugly Betty. She played a role on Desperate Housewives, as the nemesis of Susan (Teri Hatcher). It's not the same as transforming Betty Suarez's image though, but we'll get to that in a couple months.

Thoughts on 4.13- Chica & The Man

*Apologies are on order for the delay

  • The first 15 mins was interesting: Marc moves into his new job and he manages to wind Betty up at the same time.
  • The Betty and Daniel moments were good- it is nice to see those two together. there hasn't been as many detty moments in season 4. I liked that there was friction between the pair involving the blog Betty wrote about Daniel, but that they managed to resolve those issues they had in the end.
  • Chris Williams was absolutely jaw-droppingly fantastic as Wilheldiva Hater- he gave it his all and delivered. And his sister, Vanessa as Willie singing a rendition of Hall and Oates 'Man eater': probably the highlght of the ep. She totally vamped it up with style and put her own spin to it. Her singing was great! How's about making another pop album, V?
  • Michael Urie was great as Marc- his character got the promotion he wanted and the Marc and Mandy moments were good here.
  • Amanda firing Helen but later she moves in with her and Marc- fantastic! What a threesome they are!
  • It was interesting to see Amanda offering advice to Daniel about Betty and how he acted like a jerk towards her.
  • The episode ends with Betty and Daniel making up and the pair working on editing the interview.
 *Final thoughts:

This was another great episode- funny, dramatic and lots of great performances and Chris Williams was fantastic in his guest role as wilheldiva. Definitely one worth watching again and again!
