As for the so-called voiceover, talk about cheesy! I'm not too keen on the announcer's (poor) attempt at a Jamaican accent.

Save Ugly Betty- Sign The Petitions Fans!

Ugly Betty fans, if you haven't done it yet, then I'd urge you to visit either one of or indeed both of the links below and sign the petition to save Ugly Betty from the dreaded axe.

Petition Online- Save Ugly Betty

You Choose.Net- Save Ugly Betty Petition

I understand that sometimes petitions like these may not result in saving Ugly Betty per se, but this show has such an incredibly large, loyal and consistent fanbase throughout the world, that it is about time we let ABC know how much this show means to us and that we can't let it go to waste. The ratings have rapidly declined unfortunately, ever since the end of season 2 and onwards throughout season 3 and now season 4, which has been unfortunate to say the least. And four seasons for a show that has so much more to explore and develop is just too short- a fifth season would at least be a fitting way to end the series with a happy ending to go with it, as well.

So Betty folks, please vote with your feet and hands by signing the petition. Thanks a bunch!

Ugly News For Season 4 As It's Bad Ratings For 'Betty' Yet Again

TV Ratings: ABC’s 20/20 tops night; Ugly Betty ratings not pretty
Posted on 28 November 2009 by Robert Seidman

On a night filled with repeats and old movies, ABC ran an all original lineup and still could manage no better than a tie for third place with adults 18-49. 20/20 was the night’s top program in viewers (6.2 million) and adults 18-49 (1.6/5).

FOX actually won the night with adults 18-49 with the movie Ice Age Two: Meltdown, which won the 9pm hour outright. While it was a new episode of Ugly Betty last night, it still came in fourth place at 9pm. Sure, it did about as well as Supernanny, but it did worse than a repeat of The Jay Leno Show.

Even with a lineup of all repeats CBS had the most viewers for the night, and came in second with adults 18-49.
Full details:

Time Net Show 18-49 Rating/Share Viewers (Millons)

9:00 FOX Movie: Ice Age Two: The Meltdown 1.5/5  5.19 million

NBC Movie: The 40 Year Old Virgin (R) 1.3/4  3.86

CBS Medium (R) 1.2/4  5.11

ABC Ugly Betty  (Nielson rating) 0.9/3, (number of viewers)  3.39 million

TV By The Numbers- Nielson Ratings For November 27 2009

This is getting really serious now... I mean, these figures are truly horrific. If ABC had any decency left in themselves (which they probably don't) they would move Ugly Betty from Friday nights ASAP. I was hoping beforehand that the figures for Friday night's episode would be similar to that of a fortnight ago with 'Backseat Betty'. 3.39 million is just abysmal and frankly, if this continues to persists- which it will, then there's no doubt it will get cancelled.

The longer ABC continue to leave Betty on Friday nights, the sooner I get the impression that they are trying to kill and cancel Ugly Betty. And I'm literatelly astounded as to why the executive producer, Silvio Horta hasn't managed to make any attempts whatsoever in persuading and cajoling ABC's executives to rescue this show from the massive slump in ratings and its declining viewership it is currently experiencing. Why don't they do something about it?

Whoever decided it was a good idea to move Ugly Betty to Friday nights in U.S. from Thursday, considering they knew what the risks would be and realising it would struggle, must carry the can -should (and when) it gets axed.

I will be sad as well as angry to see this show cancelled so soon, and if the worst happens, don't be
surprised to see there will many irate fans demanding answers to questions they want answered; thus, the blame and fault lies with ABC.

It just gets worse and worse for this show each week- never mind viewers, fans tuning in on Friday nights- how's about ABC doing their part by moving it to Wednesdays?

Thoughts on 4.07- 'Level (7) With Me'

- Good to see Suzuki St Pierre aka Alec Mapa in this one

- Marc slapping Willie was hilarious

- Marc dancing in slippers and running and falling over after he saw Nico and Det. Castolon (sp?) talking to each other in an allyway. that made me laugh.

- Oh and his dancing was funny to watch as well : D

- Nico and the crocodile tears- save it! Marc was right and I was glad he didn't fall for it. Finally, Nico was exposed for the b*tch that she was-hooray!

- The Amanda and Claire moments were lovely

- Ok, that Community of the Phoenix mumbo jumbo crap was wacko - and Bennett and Natalie gone, finally! So glad that storyline is over and done with.

- The ending with Betty and Daniel was cute, in a way. Yet could the Betty and Daniel kissing scene hint something more between the pair, later on?

*Overall: Again, even though it was lacking in humour, the drama was still good. 'Level (7) With Me' was a pretty good episode with some good moments. My favourites were involving Marc, Wilhelmina and Nico, as well as the Betty, Amanda, Claire and Daniel ones.  Interesting to note also that there were no Suarez moments, but that didn't matter that much. It isn't by any means one of the best episodes from this season, particuarly as season 4 continues throughout. Nonetheless, would I watch it again? Probably yes.

Word to the writers: can we please have more Marc and Mandy moments of them together, as well as more funny ones, just like in episode 4 'The Weiner, The Bun & The Boob' please and less drama?

Ask Ausiello- More Details On 'Proposed' Departure Of Matt And My Comment

Ugly Betty Is Back Up And Running In NYC!

Question: Is it true that Daniel Eric Gold who plays Matt on Ugly Betty will only be appearing in four more episodes after the Bahamas episodes and then he’s gone? —Hannah
Ausiello: I can confirm that Matt will be making a departure in early 2010. Beyond that, my lips are sealed.

Ask Ausiello- EW

Well Betty folks, it looks increasingly likely that Matt played by Daniel Eric Gold will indeed be leaving Ugly Betty early in January of next year. It seems the problem with Silvio Horta and his writers is that they keep getting rid of characters that we like as soon as they have been brought on the show- or be it in Daniel's case, promoted from supporting/ guest star to series regular. Why on earth do they do this? Yes, I for one and other fans didn't like the Matt and Amanda pairing, and frankly this season ought to have been the opportunity for the writers and Silvio to develop Daniel's character and extend it further on. But now, they have wasted that chance they had by deciding to get rid of him so soon. I would've understood (sort of that is) if Matt was to leave at the end of the season... but by say after episode 10 or whatever? If anything, that is too early.

Good news for those who aren't fans of Matt and Metty, but bad news for those who are and of whom felt somewhat betrayed and let down by what I call Eric Gold's shoddy treatment at the hands of the writers and Horta.

Given they were being misled and we were misled when he was mentioned a couple of months ago that he was promoted to full-time status, this is still a bit of a shock to many fans of Daniel's character.

Personally, I think to create a character such as Matt and bring him on as a recurring/guest star, make them a regular without sabotaging them- and THEN get rid of them a couple of months down the line, is rather harsh IMO.

E! Online Spoilers From Kristen!!!

*warning spoiler ahead- if you do not want to know what happens, please refrain from reading on

Rebecca: Anything good coming up on Ugly Betty?

Kristen: I'm hearing one of the Suarez sisters is going to be pregnant! My money's on Hilda. Although Betty does already have at least one bump-concealing poncho?

Wendall in Orlando, Fla.: Thanks for the scoop on Betty's possible ending. Go Team Henry! Do you know if it's Amanda or Betty who's going to get Matt?

Kristen: I'm told he'll make his choice in the Bahamas in next week's episode, and then—he'll be off the show four episodes later. So it seems they both lose in the end!

E-Online: Watch With Kristen

I too think the pregnant Suarez sister will be Hilda- Betty as much as she has had more boyfriends, love interests compared to every other main character, I don't think is the type of girl who would find herself in this situation and position. And so we could be seeing Hilda with another child- be it a daughter or son, alongside Justin.

As for the other spoiler, what does the latter mean exactly? Based on this alone, it appears as though Matt-who was supposedly made a regular character in season 4 may NOT be returning on Ugly Betty. Shock! Horror! Wonder what the Matt and Metty fans have to say about this. I hope it isn't true. I like Matt and it will be a shame to see him- or be it Daniel Eric Gold, who plays him, gone for good.

If you have any comments, feel free to discuss about this.

'Ugly Is In' Is Back!!!

I was just browsing on the web looking for other Ugly Betty fan sites and to my pleasure, Ugly Is In is back. Thank goodness, that is. I thought it was gone for good, never to be seen again. Yet I visited the site yesterday and everything is back to normal.

The only things left which still needs to be updated are the remaining season 3 screencaps and cast promotional photos for the image gallery. All the season 1 and 2 ones are there, which is good news for those looking for images, caps to make fan art, such as wallpapers, icons, headers and posters.

Fans can also have a look at my Michael Urie & Marc Drawings which I have submitted to Mona.

The spam which once infiltrated and littered the forum boards have all dissappeared.

Owner Mona will also be working on a new site layout/interface for 'Ugly Is In'. It will, as she quoted undergo a 'major face lift'  and so it should look great with a brand new spanking design.

It is great to have 'Ugly Is In' again- after its long exodus, 'welcome back! '

Behind The Scenes at 'The Bahamas Triangle'

The cast and crew travelled to the Bahamas last month to shoot an episode, 'The Bahamas Triangle', which also features a guest appearance by pop star Shakira. Everyone looks great; especially the guys, cue Michael, Daniel (Eric Gold), Eric (Mabius) and Grant Bowler, who plays Connor is in the Clip. Interestingly, Becki Newton's brother, Matt who plays Marc's love interest, Troy does NOT feature in this one, which I thought was slightly dissapointing.

Still, this is a really interesting clip of the cast's recent exploits out in the Carribean.

Cheers once again goes out to Luana for posting this.

Ashley Landed Christina Role Whilst On Holiday In U.S.

Jensen Landed Betty Role On Holiday

WENN

Ashley Jensen was stunned to land her role in Ugly Betty - she only auditioned for the part because she was on vacation in Los Angeles.

The new mum played designer Christina McKinney on the hit U.S. show - but Jensen admits it was only a happy coincidence that saw her screen-test for the series.

She says. "We actually came out here on holiday, to do a Californian road trip. (Husband) Terry said I should mention to my agent that I was going to be in L.A. I didn't think anything would ever come of it. I was happy in London and didn't feel this burning desire to crack Hollywood or anything. But, before I knew it, my agent was putting me up for jobs.

"At first, I was like, 'Hang on, I'm on holiday!' So we did our road trip around Vegas and Napa Valley, then I decided to hang around for pilot season, and that was it: I got Ugly Betty. And I'm still here."

Comment: Has Silvio Horta Gone A Step Too Far?

24th Annual IMAGEN Awards

Oh man. Just when the declining viewing figures for Ugly Betty were the only thing that had fans worrying in despair, out pops Silvio Horta who exclaims that a Benry ending is on the horizon.

This week Ugly Betty Producer Horta infuriated, as well as upset many Detty and Getty fans by saying that Henry and Betty could reunite and end up together at the end of the series. Not Daniel, Gio or Matt, but Henry Grubstick.

According to Horta in TV Guide he was quoted as saying Henry- the guy who fathered a child with the crazed Charly and arch rival of Betty and who was seen with another girlfriend in the Curveball episode of season 3- 'is the true love of Betty's life'.

I'm sorry but I wish to reiterate that line: '...is the TRUE LOVE of Betty's life'.

The initial reaction to this would be 'WTF?' although it raises the possibility that the series finale will involve Betty and Henry.

To be honest, the return of Henry wouldn't have been as bad- HAD he returned as Betty's friend only and to help her take the next step and consumate her relationship with either Gio, Daniel-, although I'm more in favour of the latter.

As much as Christopher Gorham is a wonderful guy,- and he really is- I just think his re-appearance as Henry from a romantic point of view with Betty, would not be ideal.

Unfortunately, it appears as though Silvio's admission suggests or even exclaims that it should be Betty, and she should be with no one else but Henry and that he is the love of her life-, which is utterly perposterous. The problem I have is not so much of Betty getting back with Henry, but considering what has happened in the past and of their difficult relationship why Betty would ever want to go through all that drama with Henry, once again?  Henry, like Walter was Betty's past- and yet, we learnt it wasn't the fairytale it turned out to be.

I agree with Tom from Ugly Betty on this: Silvio should've kept his mouth shut and said nothing. Nowt. Zip.

Nevertheless, his decision to reunite Betty with Henry, is just wrong IMO- for the reason being that he is the wrong guy for Betty and that Betty's friendship with Daniel and the strong bond they have warrants a transition from employees & friends to lovers. In every other version of the show, Betty and Daniel end up together and so why should Horta detract from the original premise of the Columbian version?

Even though TV Guide didn't print a direct quote from Horta himself, it was featured in TV Guide.

It seems to me Silvio Horta hasn't a clue at all. And judging by this latest article, many Ugly Betty fans would probably agree with me on that as well.

Ausiello Betty Spoilers!!

N.B * If you do not want to know what happens, then please refrain from reading on- Waiching

Question: I loved last week’s episode of Ugly Betty. Justin’s storyline was heartbreaking and triumphant at the same time. When will he finally come out? —HH

Ausiello: I’m guessing by the end of the season, but Betty boss Silvio Horta would only say that Justin will continue “struggling with his identity and his journey is going to be funny, heartbreaking, moving and powerful.”

Question: I heard that Ugly Betty is on the verge of being canceled. Can you give me any inside information on that? —Michelle

Ausiello: I really don’t think Betty is in any immediate danger of getting pulled off the schedule. I mean, the ratings are bad but they’re not Dollhouse bad. Do I think ABC will renew it for a fifth season? Conventional wisdom says it’s probably a long-shot. For his part, Silvio Horta is preparing for either scenario. “Obviously, we all want the show to continue, but I don’t want to get caught off guard and have them tell me it’s the last season and have to wrap everything up in one episode,” he says. “So I have two season-ending arcs planned — one where it’s the last season and one where we continue for another one.”

Ugly Betty's Future Now Hanging In The Balance

Is Ugly Betty On Its Last Season?

By Kelly West: 2009-11-17 16:06:22

Bad news, Betty fans! It seems as though the low ratings on this season of Ugly Betty has prompted the writers to consider their end-game for the series, should ABC decide to drop the show from it’s lineup. In other news, we have some spoilery info on the big Bahamas episode that’s set to air in a few weeks.

Regarding the fate of the series, E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos reported on her blog that her sources say ABC is working on a way to save Betty, including possibly moving the show to Wednesdays. That seems to be one of the more obvious solutions to the ratings issue. Friday night is usually a death-sentence. It’s a place where primetime shows go to fade away (unless they’re Medium or Ghost Whisperer, that is). Betty’s not a Friday night show. I keep forgetting to watch it and if it weren’t for my DVR, I might not have caught half the episodes that have aired this season. Wednesday night would be better, as long as it's not up against Glee.

Dos Santos also reports that the writers “have accepted” that the show might be coming to an end and are working on figuring out who Betty should end up with. SEMI-SPOILERS AHEAD!

According to Dos Santos’ sources, the three biggest contenders to win Betty’s heart if and when the show comes to an end are Gio, Henry and Daniel. Now, no offense to Gio as I always thought the sandwich maker was a great match for Betty but he just wasn’t around long enough for me to consider him Mr. Forever for our girl. I was over Henry the minute Charlie showed up. She seemed to bring out all of his weaknesses and after that, I just couldn’t view him as being Betty’s perfect match anymore. Finally, there’s Daniel. To me, he’s the obvious choice. His character has made some huge strides through the course of the series, thanks in large part to Betty’s influence.

I would love to see him begin to look at Betty as not just the old, reliable once-assistant who’s taken care of him but as a beautiful, smart and strong woman whom he’d be lucky to be with. In fact, I’ve always sort of expected that to transpire at some point or another and I’d be really disappointed if we never got to see that happen. Either way, I’d rather ABC keep the show around long enough so that the writers don’t have to rush in cramming in one final love-story to cap the series off with.

http://www.cinemablend.com/television/Is-Ugly-Betty-On-Its-Last-Season-21161.html

I'm now amazed that the writers and Silvio Horta have conceded defeat in this show- they are just pathetic really, the fact they are going to end it on such short notice when they could've went on to develop the themes, storylines characters goes to show how much they have truly made a mess of Ugly Betty. Based on their recent efforts- no matter how good they have been-, it's obvious the writers and ABC have absolutely no clue whatsoever how to cater to the Ugly Betty audience and as a fan, it makes me angry and disssapointed they are not pulling out all the stops to extend its run. They sure as hell don't give a flying four X.

If this turns out to be true though, then I'll be upset to see it go so soon.

Photos 3 and 4 are very interesting:  it makes me wonder whether Claire and Amanda- well, Amanda in particular given Claire's hatred towards her mother, Fey Sommers and her affair with her ex, Bradford-have indeed reconciled for good and managed to put their differences behind them. It should be one hell of an episode when it airs next month on ABC.

Season 4 Featurette 'From Geek To Chic'

Hat tip*- thanks to Sometimes Crazy from Live Journal's 'Ugly Betty Community'

This is a 4- minute clip which comprises of condensed versions of interview clips of the cast members put together and juxtaposed/mashed with scenes from the Season 4 episodes. It is a look at what has taken place already; story and episodes-wise, in addition to the other storylines which are about to unfold, as the season progresses.

I also noticed how Ana Ortiz's voice (she plays Hilda) sounds so different in real life compared to when she is in character as Hilda. I was like going 'wow!'

Definitely one worth watching.

EW Vanessa Williams article

Vanessa Williams on Ugly Betty's Wilhelmina Slater: 'My favorite role of a lifetime'
By Michael Slezak

*Photos from ABC

Wilhelmina Slater may be the only Ugly Betty character on EW’s list of TV’s Best Bitches (do check it out in the issue on newsstands right now), but for Vanessa Williams, who’s scored an Emmy nomination in each of the show’s first three seasons, bringing the ferocious editrix to life is hardly a solo effort. “The comedy comes from what’s on the page for sure,” she says. “Our writers are brilliant. I never know what’s going to come out of my mouth. And the people I get to play with are amazing!”

Williams says she especially enjoys when Willy is bantering with loyal sidekick Marc (Michael Urie) or baring her claws at rival Claire (Judith Light). “This season we’ve had some great stuff with Wilhelmina and Claire going back and forth, which is always tasty, because it’s two women of a certain age. Willy is basically calling Claire a corpse on a daily basis, and Claire retorts with ‘You scheming, conniving bitch,’ which is the reality,” Williams says with a hearty chuckle. And although the show’s writers have allowed us to see the softer side of Wilhelmina — through her failed romances, her rocky relationship with her father, her struggles to connect with her daughter — the woman never loses her beastly edge. “We’re about to shoot a scene, I think it’s for episode 11, and I’m tempting Becki Newton’s character with all this couture, luring her like the evil queen in Snow White,” says Williams. “I say to her, ‘Amanda, Amanda…it is Amanda right?’ After four years, she still doesn’t realize it’s her name!”

Of course, four seasons into Ugly Betty’s run, Wilhelmina often doesn’t need to say a single word to strike terror into the hearts of her underlings. “A lot of the stance, the carriage, and the facial expressions are where the real power lies. That’s what makes Wilhelmina great,” says Williams.”Sometimes it’s just a look or a sigh or a roll of the eyes or a turn of the back, and that’s weighted enough. It’s been my favorite role of a lifetime, and I truly enjoy coming to work every day.”

Michael Urie At Celebrity Autobiography

Michael Urie is set to make an appearence on Celebrity Autobiography: this month's event is held on Monday evening November 23, which is next week, 7.30pm at the Triad Theatre, New York. Be sure to catch him and many other Broadway stars from stage and screen reading extracts from a famous celebrity's autobiography.

I think what makes this very amusing is the way Michael reads the chapter from the book by bringing his personality and sense of humour, thus putting his own slant to it. Which is fab to watch. The way he conveys Miley's thoughts is great.

The point with this is he took what was/is supposed to be a not so interesting book, and turned it into something enjoyable for the audience.

If you are in New York, go and see Michael next Monday evening at the Triad Theatre for Celeb Autobiography.

Note For Your Diaries: NO Ugly Betty Next Week in U.S. & UK

N.B: Ugly Betty fans- a brief reminder to those of you that there is no ABC promo video posted for the next episode on YT, given that episode 7 has been moved to the following week. That means Season 4 of Ugly Betty resumes in the U.S. from 3rd December onwards.

In addition in the UK, there is also no Series 3 episode of the show this coming Monday on Channel 4- 'Rabbit Test'- which is the next episode,  is rescheduled for 23rd November. I checked the TV Guide today... and it is definitely not on Monday evening at 10.30pm. I might be wrong about this, and I will double check to see if this info is accurate.

Otherwise, No Ugly Betty episodes will air in both the U.S. and UK on TV next week.

Thanks for reading.

Ratings for 4.06- Backseat Betty

*Listed as Ugly Betty

Source: TV By The Numbers

Thoughts on 4.06- 'Backseat Betty'

  • Wow Hilda's angry at Papi! Haha!
  • Adam Rodriguez as Bobby- I think I am going to like this guy more than Archie. He reminds me a lot of Santos. It was great how he had stuck up for Betty, when that guy yelled at her.
  • Marc and Justin were wonderful- Michael as marc looked great in this episode- very colourful! And great dancing. Debbie Allen, eat your heart out! We need more Justin on this show. Was dissapointed though when he told his family and Marc that he wasn't gay-, but we all know he is and that he is probably in denial about who he is as a person. I still think Justin will 'come out' later on this season./
  • Great to see Marc hanging out with the Suarezes; he could learn a lot from them, but also they can learn a lot from Marc too. Especially Justin.
  • Yet again Ignascio judging somebody before he even got to know them by referring to bobby as a 'thug'. Jerk.
  • Amanda and Daniel were great, and Amanda trying to warn Daniel of the dangers of this cult was good; I liked that from her. Poor Daniel, he is really finding himself to be in big trouble.
  • Vanessa as Willie - Willie quits, haha! That was one of my predictions- which I got right! Wonder what is going to happen with her now, now that she is no longer at Mode. What happens to Marc's position, of whom is still an assistant- now that he is without a boss? And the ending... OMG??! Connor is dead :O!!! Now that I didn't expect to happen, at all. Poor Willie :(.
  • I'm thinking that with Connor's death, Nico might have hired someone to kill him/bump him off *notice in an earlier scene we saw a glimpse of her texting someone on her mobile/cellphone whilst Willie was announcing her resignation to reporters. was she texting to a hitman per se, to kill Connor?
Overall: 'Backseat Betty' was a really enjoyable- yet amazing episode. Once again, I loved it from start to finish with a dramatic twist towards the end. Season 4 is improving a great deal with each instalment, and that is good to see. This was a great eppie!

EW Ausiello- Surprises In Store In Season 4 & My Predictions

'Ugly Betty' Spoiler alert: A death, a departure and a (shocking) declaration!
by Michael Ausiello

If you’re among the millions of viewers who haven’t followed Ugly Betty to its deleterious new Friday timeslot, here’s what you’ve been missing: the show’s most consistently entertaining season since its transcendent first. As I mentioned in this week’s Ask Ausiello, the fourth-year comedy is, (IMHO), enjoying a helluva creative resurgence. For proof, look not further than tonight’s exceptionally funny, moving, gutsy outing. If there were any doubts that Betty has a lot of life left in her — I’m talking to you, Ken Tucker — this eppy should obliterate them.

Now then, time to step off my soap box and board the spoiler train. Some teases for tonight’s hour:

* CSI: Miami’s Adam Rodriguez kicks off his multi-episode arc as Hilda’s bad-boy ex and promptly finds himself embroiled in a love triangle with the sisters Suarez. One minute into his debut, and I couldn’t believe Miami let this guy go.

* An embarrassing-turned-empowering incident at school leads to a major turning point in the on-going saga of Justin’s sexuality that is alternately shocking and heartbreaking.

* A significant character dies. I think.

* Mode is rocked by news of an OMG departure.

Ausiello Files- Ugly Betty Spoilers

Hmm... let's see:

CSI: Miami’s Adam Rodriguez kicks off his multi-episode arc as Hilda’s bad-boy ex and promptly finds himself embroiled in a love triangle with the sisters Suarez. One minute into his debut, and I couldn’t believe Miami let this guy go- zzzz...not another love triangle. which makes me wonder is this the third love triangle betty is involved in, after Gio and Henry and the upcoming Matt and Amanda storyline later on this season?

* An embarrassing-turned-empowering incident at school leads to a major turning point in the ongoing saga of Justin’s sexuality that is alternately shocking and heartbreaking- I'm predicting that in either this week's episode or the next 3, Justin will come out of the closet and declare his sexuality.

* A significant character dies. I think- could it be Cal Hartley, Natalie Or indeed Nico? I cannot really envisage any of the main characters exiting the show by being killed.

* Mode is rocked by news of an OMG departure- I'm thinking of the lines that perhaps Wilhelmina might leave just so she and connor can get together and either try and win back Mode from Claire and Cal, or perhaps set up their own company to rival Mode. Or even Cal leaving- Daniel is still upset at finding out his mother had an affair with Cal and so he is leaving Mode because this revelation is having a negative effect on his relationship with Claire, so he quits.

Those are my predictions- some may turn out to be true, others may turn out to be false. Either way, it looks as if they will set the ball rolling in season 4 once again as the show tries to maintain the good progress it has made during the last few episodes that we have seen so far.

Michael Urie Interview By NPR

Michael Urie, Carving Out A Character On 'Ugly Betty'
November 12, 2009

In an otherwise bleak season for sitcoms, ABC's Ugly Betty has been one of the few scripted network
-TV hits in the past few years. A campy, over-the-top comedy that revolves around life at a glossy fashion magazine, the show has won a loyal fan base — in part due to its matter-of-fact portrayal of gay characters.

One of those characters is Marc St. James, the outrageously sycophantic personal assistant to fashionista Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams). He's become a regular foil for America Ferrera's title character, a scheming nemesis in the grand soap-opera style. But he wasn't always meant to be such a big part of the show.

No Longer Just A Cameo

Marc, played by actor Michael Urie, was supposed to have a short shelf life: Writers expected him to be just one in a revolving slate of assistants to Wilhelmina, who's been known to fire employees for having a bad hair day. But Williams took a liking to Urie, including him in bits and giving him lines, helping him secure his spot on the show.

"She said, 'Stand closer to me,' Urie tells NPR's Michele Norris. "Which, in TV, is everything. Because if you're closer to the star, then you might be in the shot."

As Marc became a regular on the show, Urie got the chance to help shape the character. Most of his auditions, he explains, had involved reading for parts for which writers had provided clear guidance.
"I would go out for parts where the description for the character would be half a page. It would be: 'He's a tough-as-nails cop with a heart of gold, and whenever he gets two drinks in him, blah blah blah.' Now, the odds of me, Michael Urie, fitting what they've already come up with, it's not too high.

"And so whenever a role comes along where it says, 'Marc, Wilhelmina's bitchy gay assistant' — and that's it? — it gives someone like me a chance. Because they don't know what the hell they want. ... So that's the stuff I look for, the stuff they haven't really thought out yet — because if they've thought about it, it's probably not going to be me."

Marc's Soft Spot

As evil an over-the-top schemer as Marc can be, he does have one soft spot. He's played a mentoring role, especially in the current season, to the title character's teenage nephew. Justin, played by actor Mark Indelicato, seems to be gay, though that hasn't been made completely clear. (The Suarez clan, though they're supportive, has gone only so far as to call him "mighty festive.") Marc offers Justin advice and stands up for him — even, in one episode, confronting his own mother (Patti LuPone) when she calls Justin "swishy."

In this week's show, he's called on to serve almost as a surrogate big brother when Justin, unhappily enrolled in public school after being rejected from performing arts school, finds himself in trouble with some bullies.
"Marc's advice is to befriend the cheerleaders, because the cheerleaders are the mean girls, and the mean girls lead to popularity," Urie explains. "And if he's with them, he won't get messed with. And so that's what he does."

Urie points out that while there have been plenty of funny gay guys on TV shows before — "I'm nothing new," he cracks — he says that the mentoring dynamic between the two characters is something new. As is Justin himself.

"To watch what's happening with Justin's character and how supportive his mother and grandfather and aunt are with him, it's a really beautiful example of how people across this country could deal with a situation that's maybe outside their comfort zone," Urie says.

Ugly Betty's writers have made Justin a precociously smart character, Urie notes. Same for his family: "They handle things correctly, they talk about problems, they treat people right." No surprise, Urie says, that Justin ultimately handles that bullying situation well.

Delivering Punch Lines, But Not Serving As One

Ugly Betty is among a newer breed of sitcoms and TV dramas in which gay characters are natural parts of a tapestry of storylines, rather than standing out as if shows are seeking a gold star for diversity.
"And they're not just a joke anymore," says Urie. "They deliver the punch lines, but they are not the punch lines."

Marc St. James, of course, often is the punch line, Urie acknowledges — "but not for being gay, for being silly. We don't make gay jokes on the show. ... They're smarter than that. And we're not catering to an audience who thinks jokes like that are funny."

Ashley Jensen Gives Birth To A Boy!! :)

CBS' New Season Celebration - Arrivals

Many, many congratulations are on order for our Ashley Jensen, the Scottish actress who plays seamstress, Christina McKinney- she gave birth to a baby boy, who she has named Francis Jonathan, this morning. Happy news indeed for us Betty peeps! Ashley is currently doing the rounds on the Jenna Elfman CBS sitcom, 'Accidently on Purpose' in the U.S. and although we last saw Christina towards the end of last season with baby William exit Ugly Betty, she isn't exactly gone for good.

It would be great to see Christina pop in and out of mode, once in a while, as she is now a recurring character and Silvio Horta and the writers have insisted she will return at some point. I hope they are right.

But this is wonderful news- we are so happy for Ashley, she deserves nothing but happiness :).

Ausiello- Betty Will NOT Be Moving To Wednesday Nights; More Info On Matt Newton's Casting

Question: What’s the latest word on Ugly Betty moving to Wednesdays? —Alec

Ausiello: All signs point to… it not happening. ABC insiders tell me Betty is staying put on Fridays for now. The most likely candidate to inherit Eastwick’s Wednesdays at 10 p.m. timeslot early next year is Lost. Speaking of Betty, is it just me or is the show kind of on fire right now? Every episode this season has been a winner. I’m even staying awake during the Daniel scenes!

Question: Ugly Betty seems to be fighting hard to win back viewers and fans this season.
These episodes are way stronger than anything in season three. Got scoop? —J

...In the meantime, look for Matt Newton (Becki Newton’s real-life bro) to debut in the upcoming Bahamas episode as Mark’s new boyfriend. But that’s old news. Here’s some new news: His stint has been expanded. He’ll now appear in roughly four episodes. Additionally, Nadia Dajani (Emily’s Reasons Why Not) has been cast as Mode’s new creative director for a couple episodes. Cal Hartley imports her from the movie business to try to makeover the magazine.

EW: Ask Ausiello Ugly Betty Spoilers

And so for the time being, we'll be seeing Marc and Matt's character together as a coupling  for a few episodes on the show. I don't see this ship' lasting very long, sadly that is, but I am really looking forward to seeing Becki's brother, Matt and how he fares on Ugly Betty. As for the move to Wednesday nights, I am rather dissapointed; as I wrote on Ugly Betty News:

'I’m dissapointed this show is not moving to Wednesdays because as far as i see it, Friday nights will NOT improve Ugly Betty’s viewing figures. I still see Betty languishing below 5 million.

If the green light was given for Wednesdays, then there would’ve been a slight chance the show would survive for another season.

Looks like chances of a 5th season is almost (officially) doomed.'

I don't understand why ABC are taking this long to make an official announcement about the show's future:
If it is not moving to Wednesdays, then announce it, if it is moving to Wednesdays, then announce it. Mathmatically speaking, if the show does remain on Friday nights, than frankly, it is the end of Ugly Betty because I just cannot for the life of me, regardless of how much the writing improves, see this show last for another season after this one, as long as the figures fail to climb up, each week. Friday nights is killing this show. The ratings for season 4 haven't been great and although the Friday night 9pm slot hasn't helped matters, the show, episodes-wise-has improved steadily.

I still prefer season 3 and season 4 so far has been okay for me personally, but hey that's just me.
Wednesday evenings would've been ideal for Ugly Betty and the likilhood of a 5th season taking place is
just what we'd like to see happen but as things stand unfortunately, the move appears to be OFF.

And that, if anything, is bad news for us fans, for the show's future and for the Ugly Betty cast members themselves.

TV Squad On Ugly Betty Move To Wednesday Nights

Things are looking up for Ugly Betty... perhaps

Posted Nov 10th 2009 10:18PM by Allison Waldman

If you're an Ugly Betty fan, you might be wondering why ABC has been treating the show like a stepchild lately. I know I've wondered why the Peabody-award winning, Emmy-winning, universally hailed, feel-good show was getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop. Instead of a big, splashy Season 4 premiere, Ugly Betty was sort plunked onto the schedule on Friday night at 9 p.m. in mid-October. There was little fanfare and the ratings were underwhelming.

Well, things might be changing for the better for Betty -- like her gradual on screen makeover. With the cancellation of Eastwick, ABC has confirmed to AfterElton.com that Ugly Betty will move to Wednesday at 10 p.m. It won't happen right away, but if ABC is smart, the sooner they can shift Eastwick out of that slot and hand it over the Betty, the better.

There are no sure things, but I like the odds of Ugly Betty going up against Leno and CSI: NY. Oh, I don't think it'll be the CBS crime procedural, but it might rebound enough for a possible bright future. Until today, it appeared that this would be the last season of Ugly Betty. However, at least now there's hope.

If Ugly Betty thrives on Wednesday -- which is a very good spot for the show, after the ABC sitcom lineup that includes some breakout shows (not including Hank) -- there might be a Season Five. I wouldn't bet the house on it, but it's encouraging.

This Just in From After Elton.org

I just got this off Tom's Ugly Betty News website a few minutes ago:

Confirmed! ABC Moving "Ugly Betty" to Wednesday Nights

By Michael Jensen

Just when I thought network programming was so bad that it had to be done by a bunch of drunk monkeys (see: NBCSucks), ABC goes and proves me wrong by moving Ugly Betty to Wednesday nights, rectifying their bone-headed mistake of moving the show to Fridays. Kristin at E! reported it as as a rumor this morning, but a source very close to the show has confirmed to AfterElton.com the move is definite although the time hasn't been decided for sure.

The idea behind the move is to pair Betty with ABC's freshman hits Modern Family and Cougartown and actually makes a lot of sense. In fact, it actually gives ABC quite a two-hour block of comedy to promote the heck out of and, with any luck, will return Betty to its status as a top twenty show.

As I've said ever since Betty came back, I think this season has been absolutely terrific and wasn't pulling the numbers it deserved. Creatively the show is at its peak both in writing and the performances from the cast. And for gay viewers, the show has hinted that it was finally going to go somewhere interesting with Justin.

But do us all a favor and help prove network television need not be a wasteland of Jay Leno and Bachelor-type shows by watching UB again now. You won't be sorry.

After Elton- Ugly Betty Moving To Wednesday Nights

Still expecting the official word by ABC on this, though it is 'highly likely' the move to Wednesday nights is well and truly official- well, almost. Ugly Betty will be having a new lease of life with a new Wednesday night slot in the U.S., which commences early next year. Now it's all down to the fans to tune in and watch this show. ABC, you are forgiven. For now at least, anyway.

Comment: ABC, PLEASE Move This Show Back To Thursday Nights

'Ok, we have to face facts: this move to Friday nights in America is just not working out- if anything it has been a complete disaster. Last Friday's episode was the best so far this season- yet the figures were once again, awful: this time hitting the 4.5 million mark....

'...If ABC wants to save this show, then they know what they have to do- move Ugly Betty back to Thursday evenings at 8.00pm and as for Silvio and co to improve on the scripts. No buts about it. They would think that there is no way they can move it to Thursdays, but seriously this show is struggling badly in the ratings in the U.S.

'...It's either that or watch the show's ratings/viewing figures decline even further- thus resulting in its cancelation-, and that cannot ever happen again, can it? WRONG.'

Waiching

Ok, so I was wrong on Thursday evenings but otherwise, I predicted most of it and that ABC are considering changing the day and time slots for Ugly Betty- which is good news indeed. And so I am relived about that. I was indeed right. Horray! :D

UK figures for 3.19 'The Sex Issue'

Channel 4's Ugly Betty had 500,000 viewers, a 5% share, between 10.35pm and 11.35pm, with another 42,000 on Channel 4 +1. So in total, the episode generated 542, 000 viewers

That same episode drew 590,000 when it was aired on E4 on last week, Tuesday November 3rd

At last! There IS Hope For Ugly Betty

Ugly Betty May Steal Eastwick Slot from Lost Today 6:15 AM PST
by Kristin Dos Santos

Not even Jerry O'Connell's bare backside could save it.

Despite JOC telling us that he was just shooting some "sexy scenes" last night on the set of Eastwick, the news has broken that his wife Rebecca Romijn's series is a goner. ABC has confirmed that no new episodes will be produced beyond the original 13-episode commitment.

So this means Lost is a shoo-in to come back to Wednesday nights, right?
Maybe not.

ABC insiders tell me that another series might be headed for that cushy slot, and this girl happens to rock a mean Guadalajara poncho...

According to sources, ABC higher-ups are considering moving Ugly Betty to Wednesdays at 10 in January as part of a flashy relaunch of the show in an effort to save it. The thinking is that Betty would complement new hits Modern Family and Cougar Town nicely, and make ABC a solid destination for comedy on Wednesday night.

Nothing has been decided, but I'm told this is one option on the table.

"Honest to God, they haven't given us a date yet," Lost boss Damon Lindelof recently told USA Today. "I don't even know what night it's going to be on. We've been on Wednesday at 9 for awhile, but now ABC's comedies are actually working. And I actually like Modern Family and Cougar Town, so I'm not sure that they'll move them."

No word yet on where Lost will go if Betty gets Eastwick's Wednesday slot.

According to insiders, Betty also has a creative resurgence in the works, including an episode in the spirit of 'Run Lola Run' in which Betty must race across town to deliver a diamond-encrusted bra which sounds pretty exciting. ABC execs asked producers to move the episode up to an earlier date because they liked it so much, according to my mole.

E Online- Watch With Kristin

Wow, this is a surprise indeed. I think ABC have taken notice of the fans concerns; well, the declining viewing figures for season 4 so far and have begun considering this option. I think we shouldn't jump into conclusions just yet- after all, nothing has been officially confirmed by ABC about rescheduling this show.

But after reading about Eastwick's cancellation, they probably know that Friday nights haven't exactly been kind towards Ugly Betty, nor to its fans who decide to tune into the current season the following day on ABC.com or online.

I personally think season 4 is improving steadily after a 'not so great' start- now, 5 episodes later, it's not what I'd call great but it's not terrible either, and so hopefully as the show continues, the storylines will get better, as well as the viewing figures.

I hope Ugly Betty moves to Wednesday nights in the U.S.- just so it will give the show and the producers a boost in the ratings. The quality of the storylines is still the main issue- say, Ugly Betty is on Wed nights, if they are maintained from January onawards, then fans will tune in. If we get more episodes as great and entertaining as 'The Weiner, Bun and Boob' and 'Plus None' and less of the season 4 premiere and 'Blue on Blue', then I'll be happy and many of the fans will be happy too.

Lots of fans have doubted this show will last beyond this season; but now, what with this announcement made by ABC, the move to wednesday from the so-called dreaded Friday night death-slot- if and when it is given the green light by ABC and the UB producers- is exactly what Ugly Betty and its fans need. If this show is ever to survive another season and last for at least one more season after this one.

Ugly Betty Spoiler-ish Gossip!

Swish in Rhode Island: What's the word on Ugly Betty? Is it going to get better?

Kristen: Actually I'm hearing of a very cool episode that will be in the vein of Run, Lola, Run. Run, Betty, run! In it, Betty (America Ferrera) needs to get a diamond-encrusted bra across town, and she has three ways of getting there. Apparently ABC is very hot on this episode in particular and is hoping for a ratings uptick from it. No word yet on whether Betty wears a red Sydney Bristow wig.

E Online- Watch With Kristen

If you have never heard or seen the movie, 'Run Lola Run', think Groundhog Day- yep the 1993 Bill Murray, Andie Macdowell one- minus the funny parts, with more action and drama. Oh and it is made in Germany too. It is actually rather cool to watch; I've seen it myself. Just amazing. Just google 'Run Lola Run' in any search engine or on IMDb and you'll come across it.

I am going to look forward to seeing this eppie- if the writers get this one right on the ball, then this could turn out to be one of the best episodes from season 4. I think it is going to have some funny, amusing parts with plenty of drama and some action involved as well.

This one should turn out to be fantastic.

Episode 4.07 Moved To November 27

This was announced by ABC and posted a few hours ago on Spoiler TV: Episode 7, Level (7) With Me

*Note: This program was originally scheduled to air November 20.

BETTY PLOTS TO BREAK DANIEL FREE FROM THE COMMUNITY OF THE PHOENIX, ON "UGLY BETTY"
"Level (7) with Me" -- Daniel lets the leaders from the Community of the Phoenix call the shots at Mode, and Bennett's promises to reunite Daniel with his dead wife prompt Betty to action. She schemes with Claire on breaking through to him with an ingenious plan and finds unlikely allies in Matt and Amanda. Meanwhile, Wilhemina has let herself go, wearing sweats and garden clogs in public, prompting a tabloid feeding frenzy and spurring Marc to dig deeper into Nico's mystery, on "Ugly Betty," FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Hence Episode 7, which was supposed to air on November 20, has been postponed until the following week on November 27, this year in the U.S..

America Talks Ugly Betty In Season 4

Not that surprised to see America declare that Betty and Daniel will not be getting together in the end with this version, although I am still hoping we get some kind of resolution with them in the end of  the very last episode of the series.  It was only a couple of weeks ago when Silvio Horta admitted for the first time that his original take on the ending- alas not having a Detty ending- may not be the same as it was, now because of the changes within the show and the development of the characters and storylines throughout the seasons, so far.

Both America and Eric (Mabius) have strongly argued against the idea of having Betty and Daniel as a possible coupling, but for the Detty shippers you'll never know- perhaps Silvio will go ahead with it, regardless.

Episode 4.06 Promo For 'Backseat Betty'

Here is the promo for the next upcoming Ugly Betty titled: 'Backseat Betty' with Adam Rodriguez guest- starring, which airs next Friday on ABC:

Comments on 4.05- Plus None

  • Matt and Betty- nice scene at the beginning
  • Funny line from Marc- 'Oh I'm fine, I have a piece of corny stuck in my throat'. Haha!
  • Daniel hugging Willie was a cute moment
  • Willie and Marc scene earlier on was hilarious where she was throwing all sorts of questions about the benefit bash for the orphan children of Tibet at Marc
  • Always knew that Natalie was up to something- scheming b*tch. I just don't like her at all. The part towards the end confirmed that she is using Daniel for whatever loony idea she is involved in
  • Hilda just gets better and better with each episode- I love her more, and what a cool sister she is to Betty! Justin had a few scenes, but he was cool too.
  • Cal Hartley is a p*ick and an a***hole and I'm siding with Daniel on this one- pardon my language, folks
  • Nico is a ... oh God, she was a time-timing , in fact I hated Nico, Cal and Natalie
  • The twist with Matt, Betty and Amanda at the party was one I didn't see coming- wow! Does that mean we won't be having this love triangle?
  • Matt has become less mean and more tolerable so far- he's been cool. Yet like father, like son he is behaving just like his dad after what he did at Willie's fundraising charity ball...which is a bit of a concern.
  • And Betty dancing on her own in the end- great ending!
*Overall: This was another wonderful episode, I enjoyed this one a lot- not as much as 'The Weiner, The Bun & The Boob' but it was still eventful and interesting. All the main storylines were covered well with a few twists and surprises thrown in for good measure. I hated Nico, Cal and Natalie though- hope we won't have to wait too long for this trio to be exposed as the con artists that they are.

But 'Plus One' was just great! It is definitely worth watching again :).
