Now Confirmed: Ugly Betty IS Moving To Wednesday Nights

December 01, 2009 'Ugly Betty' moving to Wednesdays
"Ugly Betty" is being rescued from Friday nights -- again!

Sources say "Betty" is moving to Wednesdays at 10 p.m., taking over the slot most recently held by "Eastwick."

Back in 2006, ABC shifted "Betty" from a planned Friday night series debut to high-profile Thursdays after critics loved the pilot. After a modestly successful run in the slot, ABC downshifted the show to Fridays this fall, for real this time, once ratings fell off. But "Betty" lost more viewers in its new time period than any other returning show. Plus, adding "Betty" could make Wednesday an all-comedy lineup, following the ABC's sitcom block.

ABC had no comment, though sources say the move will likely happen very soon.

Receiving a network pardon from a Friday slot is rare. The evening have become a night where broadcasters put shows on their last legs. "Betty" has received some rave reviews this season, however.

ABC will use the remaining five episodes of "Shark Tank" in the "Betty" slot, continuing the reality show's string of tough time periods.

This is great news indeed for Betty fans- although for me, season 4 is improving with each episode; do I love it? Personally, I think it is getting better: I have enjoyed the last 4 episodes, the first 3 did very little for me. But am I enjoying it as much as series 1, 2 and 3? Well, I prefer season 4 so far over season 2, but NOT seasons 1 and 3.

This has been the news we have all been waiting for and expecting- after all the anticipation and speculation and weeks of ifs, buts and maybes, Ugly Betty for the 3rd time has a new home in America- on Wednesday nights.

Friday nights has been a disaster- a HUGE failure no doubt. The move was a travesty, in spite of the good reviews season 4 has been receiving. The lack of promotion from ABC for the fourth season was evident- no major big promos to usher in season 4. Yes Ugly betty has a new home, yet again, but Fridays are not 'it'.

It also raises the possibility of a fifth (and perhaps final) season of Ugly Betty following on from this season- should the viewing figures increase each week, starting from January.

The move will commence on January 6th next year.

Proving that there is still life in the old dog- be it be young Latina girl with the glasses from Queens-, yet, Betty looks like it will bounce back to life... and for the better of the show too. :).
