I was searching for Ugly Betty videos on You Tube and I came across this:
This special feature on Ugly Betty is in four parts: the first part discusses the U.S. incarnation and how the idea for an American version was going to be put together with the help of Selma Hayek- the so-called 'brains' and Executive Producer behind the move into making a 'western' Ugly Betty a reality . It includes excerpts and interviews with the other cast members. The presenter also discusses the main plot of the show. In the second part, we take a retrospective look at the characters from Mode Magazine and Betty's family; the third part has Michael Urie showing us a grand tour of Mode's offices and the fashion styles which define the individuality of each character, whilst the fourth part concludes with Ugly Betty's cast members fashion 'dos and dont's' tips, as well as recalling their previous work experiences that they undertook before they became famous. This documentry was released during the 2007-08 period of Season 2.
Though this is based on Season 2, one can watch this and still make comparisons with Season 4, which kicked off last week in America.
It is kind of interesting to see how different things fared on the show back then, and then comparing say, the first season to the current fourth season. Because the show has in many ways evolved and changed especially with regards to the characters; mostly for the better. The different storylines that take place within Ugly Betty take the audience or be it fans to different places and often they challenge people's social, cultural attitudes, ideas and experiences, in relation to the show's themes and storylines.
Another thing that striked me is that during the first season, Betty was first hired as Daniel's assistant- a role of which Amanda (played by Becki Newton) desperately wanted for herself.... and now as Betty is an editor in series 4- a position that Marc wanted so badly for himself-, she finds herself back to being loathed, abused and hated by Marc, Amanda, Wilhelmina yet again- though in this instance by Marc. Just like what happened during the first season when Betty first arrived at Mode.
This is certainly great viewing and a really fascinating insight into the show and the cast members as they talk about Ugly Betty and its postive impact on fans like us, around the globe :).
