Ana Ortiz: Betty's Braces WILL Come Off!

'Ugly Betty' will lose her braces, confirms Ana Ortiz

Finally, the wait is (almost) over as Betty Suarez will lose her signature metal-laden smile earlier on in Season 4.

Ana Ortiz, who guest co-hosted on "The View" Thursday in the U.S, confirmed these rumours to be true on the show.

"They are coming off this season," said Ortiz. "Even in the first episode -- it's a two-hour episode, it's brilliant -- she starts to make the transition. It's really exciting."

She also insisted that Betty's makeover will 'divide' fans of the show as the topic has become one of the main talking points on the "Ugly Betty" blogs and forums for this season.

"In the original 'Betty la fea' [the telenovela on which 'Ugly Betty' is based], they tried to make her pretty, and the country went bananas,".

Yet Ortiz wanted to reassure the fans these changes will not mean Betty will regress as a result.

"We are not going to turn her into a supermodel. She is Betty and she will always be Betty, but she's going to evolve."



I am going to look forward to this slow, evolving transformation of Betty as quoted by Marc in Season 1, 'from an Ugly Duckling to a beautiful swan', as it is surely about time Betty's appearance changes. Besides, there's no way she could get away with dressing the way she did during the previous seasons in Season 4. Especially as Betty is now an editor. Though as I stated before, it is her as a person which I am going to take a keen eye on, which interests me more than her looks. So yes, it is good Betty's look is going to change for the better, but it has to be approached and timed in the right way that doesn't the detract from the original premise of Ugly Betty.

If however, by the end of, or during this season, Betty ends up looking like America Ferrera then it's 'game over' for this show, as far as I and many fans are concerned. Therefore, I don't want this show to end too soon after the end of the fourth season.
